1940 per person weekly war rations for the UK
(these were the initial rations per person for meat; as the war went on, these rations were cut)
2 slices of bacon
100 gr butter
200 gr lard
12 oz (3,4 dl) sugar
meat for 1 shilling 2 pence:
equivalent to 2 steaks OR 1500 gr cut stew beef OR liver, kidneys etc in quite large amounts
Unlimited domestically grown vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, onions. Potatoes, fish and fruit were also not rationed.

Further rationing was introduced later on and often changed.
Although it seems unbelievable now, the UK population had never been healthier.
Maybe not a bad example. Definitely cheap.
